Software on platforms you already run
Making the systems you already license do the specific thing they nearly do, instead of replacing them.
Why this comes up
The expensive instinct is to rebuild. A platform does eighty per cent of what you need, the last twenty per cent is awkward, and a vendor offers to build the whole thing from scratch.
That is usually the wrong trade. You lose the eighty per cent that works, the integrations, the staff training and the support contract, in exchange for a bespoke system you now have to maintain forever.
WHAT THE WORK IS
Extend rather than replace
- Custom modules, apps and plugins inside the platform's own extension model
- Integrations between the platforms you already run, so data stops being re-keyed
- Automation of the steps a person currently does by hand between two systems
Keep the exit open
- Vendor-specific code kept behind a seam rather than spread through the codebase
- Your data exportable in a form that is useful somewhere else
- Written down clearly enough that the platform's own support can still help you
What you get
- The missing capability, inside the system your team already knows
- A smaller bill than a rebuild, and a smaller thing to maintain
- An honest note on where the platform will eventually run out of road
Right when
The tool is nearly right and the gap is specific.
Wrong when
You are fighting the platform on every screen. Then a rebuild is the cheaper answer.
The rest of what we do
IT STARTS WITH THE AUDIT.
Free, and it ends with an honest read on whether you need us. That is the only commitment to make right now.
